Sonic the Hedgehog Sequel Reveals 'Extremely Obvious' Title, Logo Animation

The sequel to Paramount Pictures' Sonic the Hedgehog has revealed its official title and logo animation with an energetic teaser video.

Fans finally know what the official title for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is, along with the sequel's logo.

"Groundbreaking. Thought provoking. Extremely obvious. Presenting the official title of the #SonicMovie sequel: Sonic the Hedgehog 2! Catch #SonicMovie2 in theatres in 2022," a tweet from the officialSonic the Hedgehog Twitter account reads. So in conclusion, the sequel to 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog is officially titledSonic the Hedgehog 2. A look at the announcement video and the full logo can be found below.

The video animation has an orange Number 2 appear next to the regularSonic the Hedgehog logo. Once they connect, the Number 2 grows a tail, alluding to the debut ofSonic sidekick Tails, who appeared in a post-credits scene in the original film.

Aquaman star Jason Momoa is reportedly in talks to voice Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The report claims Paramount Pictures has offered the role to Momoa, though he has yet to officially accept it.

Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy announced that they were developing a sequel to the hit film adaptation of the popular video game franchise in May 2020. Jeff Fowler is expected to return to direct and Pat Casey and Josh Miller will once again write the script.

Released in February 2020, Sonic the Hedgehog follows the Blue Blur (voiced by Schwartz) as he fights to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from taking over the world. The film teased a sequel in the mid-credits sequence, which features an appearance by Tails, one of Sonic's iconic sidekicks.

The movie opened to $70 million over the four-day President's Day weekend in 2020, earning the largest opening for a video game-based film. It made a total of $319.7 million worldwide off an $81-$95 million budget.

The originalSonic the Hedgehog video game was released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis to compete with Nintendo's Mario. The franchise started out as a series of platformers, but eventually spun out into racing, fighting, party and sports games. The Sonic characters even crossed over with Mario in the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games franchise, while Sonic appears as a playable character in Super Smash Bros.

Written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is directed by Jeff Fowler. The film will hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
